Sapientia in Europe – The Start of „Key Skills for European Union Hotel Staff” Project Tourism and Languages

The Department of Humanities in Miercurea Ciuc of the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania has recently joined a two-year international project within the Erasmus+ programme of the EU. The aim of the project is to create, design and try out teaching and learning materials that will provide hotel staff, trainees and students with a very extensive range of replies to guests’ questions and requests in 12 languages, including Hungarian and Romanian. They are questions asked at the hotel reception and in the hotel restaurants, cafés and bars as well as in other parts of the hotel. The material will be made available on-line and as a smartphone application.

The co-ordinator of the project is a professional institution in Dubrovnik (Croatia), the team also having partners from Slovenia, Italy, Latvia, England and Romania. The initial meeting took place in Dubrovnik from 3-4 November, 2014, where Sapientia University was represented by Zsuzsanna Ajtony and Enikő Pál, tutors at the Department of Humanities.

During the meeting the contract between the co-ordinating institution and Sapientia University was signed and project details, as well as the major issues of the first semester, were discussed. During the meeting we also had the opportunity to get to know each other. As part of the programme, we had a sightseeing tour of the ancient city, the pearl of the Adriatic Sea coast, with its buildings from the Age of the Renaissance and the remains of the war of the recent past.

The next meeting and the evaluation of the work of the first six months is going to take place in April 2015, here, in the Miercurea Ciuc campus of Sapientia University, where all our partners will be warmly welcome.
