Discourse, Culture and Representation II - International Conference

On 15-16 April 2016, the Department of Humanities of Sapientia University, in collaboration with the American Hungarian Educators Association (AHEA), organizes the English language international conference Discourse, Culture and Representation II in the campus of Miercurea Ciuc/Csíkszereda, Romania. Submission until 31 January 2016.

The aim of our conference is to bring together researchers from different fields of the humanities (Literary History, Literary Criticism, Literary Theory, Cultural Studies, Film and Media Studies, Linguistics, Text Linguistics, Discourse and Conversation Analysis, Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics) to exchange their findings and to foster further collaboration and exchange of ideas related to the concepts of discourse, culture and representation.

The terms “discourse”, “culture” and “representation” can be interrelated in a plethora of ways; the conference aims to invite papers that address contemporary cultural phenomena (culture and identity, interculturality, interethnicity, cultural transfer and mediation, migration, border-crossing, nomadic identity, cultures in transition, intercultural exchange between the East and the West, the post-communist condition, heterotopias, non-places as anthropological spaces of transience; bilingualism, multilingualism) and discuss the ways in which they are rendered in terms of their discursive aspects (analyses of topoi, motifs, chronotopes, figurations; discourse analysis; linguistic landscapes) and artistic/medial (literary and cinematic) representation.

Presentations

The conference will embrace parallel sessions held in English. Each paper will be allotted 20 minutes for the presentation, followed by discussions. The programme will also include a virtual panel.
